THE SALT RACER

In 1830 whilst looking for a trail to California, a French-born officer in the United States Army (and fur trapper, and explorer in the American West) by the name of Benjamin Louis Eulalie de Bonneville (impressive) ...discovered the Great Salt Lake.

Fast forward 80 years and the "Terrible" Teddy Tetzlaff (so nicknamed due to his rough treatment of his vehicles) went a 100mph and then 4 years later in 1914, he set a Salt Lake record of 148mph in his "Blitzen Benz 2." The rest as they say, is history and since the early 50's the Salt Lake has been the place for setting land speed records. Currently the record for a motorbike is 376mph.
